The “You Decide” tab to the left presents a difficult and painful dilemma to you in an imagined professional role. Go through the You Decide presentation, make the decision it calls for, and write your weekly paper to make your decision and explain, in the given format, your reasoning and justification for it.

Your dilemma is that you have to make a painful medical decision and to explain, in writing, who benefits from what you decided, who gets denied a needed benefit, and why. The document is to be in the form of an official memorandum that will be kept for the record and could be potentially read by not only your Peer Review Committee, but also possibly those involved in charitable fundraising to support hospital development and others with financial interests in the choice made.

You will see in the You Decide tab that there is time pressure in the simulated situation to make your decision, so remember that you would not have the luxury to dawdle in the decision-making process, and as the decision-maker, you would not have the luxury of consulting others. It all falls on YOU!

Include in the document the utilitarian ethical philosophy of John Stuart Mill (from the lecture and audio for this week) and ONE OTHER ETHICAL PHILOSOPHER of your choice that we have studied to date, and use both of those philosophies to bolster your decision. This paper will be at least two double spaced pages but limited to three pages. Remember both professional written form and potential audience, as well as tone when writing this sensitive paper.

You may want to wait until at least Thursday to begin working on this assignment so you can include the information we are learning in the threads and in our readings in your thought processes.

Write your answer and save it in a Word document, entitled,“YourLastnameEthicsWeek5.docx.”

For example, Dr. Christian Barnard, who performed the first heart transplant surgery, would turn in a document named “BarnardEthicsWeek5.docx.”

This problem may take more than a few paragraphs to answer. I would think that about two pages should cover this. You may include a reference to up to two outside sources, if properly documented. Outside sources are NOT required.

Focus of the Final Paper

Write a five-to seven-page financial statement analysis of a public company, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.   In this analysis you will discuss the financial health of this company with the ultimate goal of making a recommendation to other investors.   Your paper should consist of the following sections: introduction, company overview, horizontal analysis, ratio analysis, final recommendation, and conclusions.  Your paper needs to include a minimum of two scholarly resources in addition to the textbook as references.

Here is a breakdown of the sections within the body of the assignment:  

Company Overview 
Provide a brief overview of your company (one to two paragraphs at most).   What industry is it in?   What are its main products or services?  Who are its competitors?  

Horizontal Analysis of Income Statement and Balance Sheet
Prepare a three-year horizontal analysis of the income statement and balance sheet of your selected company.  Discuss the importance and meaning of horizontal analysis.  Discuss both the positive and negative trends presented in your company.  

Ratio Analysis
Calculate the current ratio, quick ratio, cash to current liabilities ratio, over a two-year period.   Discuss and interpret the ratios that you calculated.  Discuss potential liquidity issues based on your calculations of the current and quick ratios.  Are there any factors that could be erroneously influencing the results of the ratios?  Discuss liquidity issues of competitive companies within the same industry.  

Recommendation
Based on your analysis would you recommend an individual invest in this company?  What strengths do you see?  What risks do you see?  It is perfectly acceptable to state that you would recommend avoiding this company as long as you provide support for your position.  

Writing the Final Paper

1.   Must be five to seven double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
2.   Must include a title page with the following:

a.   Title of paper
b.   Student’s name
c.   Course name and number
d.   Instructor’s name
e.   Date submitted

3.   Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
4.   Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
5.   Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
6.   Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
7.   Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Positive Psychology

 

 

 

     I have searched the internet and found some meanings for positive psychology but this one I have come up with was:  Positive psychology is a branch of psychology that focuses on improving the mental functioning of human beings above that of normal mental health. Researchers in this rapidly growing field investigate what makes human beings happy and how an individual can lead a fulfilling and satisfying life. As a field of inquiry, its purpose is to understand and foster the factors that allow individuals, communities, and societies to flourish (Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000), adapting what is best in the scientific method to the unique problems that human behavior presents. (SelfGrowth.com).  Do you think that positive psychology is in more demand now that stress and economic hardship is more prominent in the United States?  Yes I do think positive psychology is in more demand now because of all the crime we see and go through now and today.  I mean we have children killing children, we have children killing their parents, shooting up schools, committing suicide, abusing drugs more than ever, and mental issues more now than then.  I have said before when I was coming up my grandmother was still alive and she did not believe in seeing a counselor or psychologist because mental illnesses weren’t really an issue then like it is now.  Our grandmothers and granddad’s really had no reconciliation of these sicknesses than like now.  It’s something because some of my illnesses I show now at the age of thirty seven I can think about some things I did when I was younger  that I now see was very disturbing or should I just say mentally challenging but no one knew what having bipolar, or schizophrenic, was so everyone looked over the  issues. 

 

Are people under more stress now than in the past, if so why do you think so?  I feel that people are under more stress now than the past.  I mean look at the cost of living now than in the past.  People now have to have some kind of income to live a little decent life.  I mean if you do not want to live in a shelter, living on your own is pricey and hard because there is no just getting by now it’s not enough.  So much of our population now needs a car just to get around when in the past busing and trains were the most popular.  Cars are expensive to buy and more expensive to maintain.  It is very hard for a low-income family to try to afford a car to get around, or even gas to put into the car, or maintenance on the car.  Now everything is all about money.  If you as a person have no money you nine times out of ten have nothing.  I know that is a harsh thing to say but truthfully in this life right now it’s true.  Do you consider yourself a happy person?  No I do not consider myself a happy person.  I say this because I have been living in a manic depressed state for four years now.  Sometimes I am happy depending on the situation; for instance, like now when I am writing, working, or cleaning, or even doing fun things but not having an income limits me to having fun time all the time.  Most of the time I am bored, I am sad, and I am lonely.  My phone does not ring.  I do not have friends, or supportive family.  My mom picks her phone up to call my sister but she will not pick it up to call me.  It hurt my feelings very bad and no matter how I try to talk to my mom about it she still continue to do.  She will not talk to me at all after an argument with me but she has no problem with talking to my brother or sister.  Most of my depression comes from the lack of not being loved.  I do not feel my family loves me, my husband left me, and my children are so unjust to me when all I do is try to love them and keep them from going through some of the bad experiences I went through.  My oldest so do not talk to me or his siblings at all and that hurts me too.  It’s just the feeling of loneliness brings depression to you and sometimes the feeling of not wanting to be around anymore when no one cares anyway.  In what ways can you enhance your own happiness?  Like I have said I think having something to do keep me happy, somewhere to be keeps me happy even if it’s for a few hours.  Being in the house all day everyday with nothing to do tends to bring memories from the past up and the sadness begins, the madness comes in, and crankiness plays it roll.  I do not like to be a mean person, cranky, or angry person all the time but unfortunately bipolar illness can do this to a person.  Bottom line if a human being who lives with depression, bipolar, or any mental illness can sometime find it best to stay active because it helps tremendously with the sickness having a person by your side who is understanding and helpful would not hurt either.

Discuss: Week 3 Positive Psychology

 

This week’s  discussion focused on positive psychology. In my opinion you are the one that can make it negative or positive. If you are living a negative life full of doubts an uncertainties,  hanging,, with negative people saying what you can’t do or son’t have or not doing whay it takes in the right manner to get these things you are bot libing for a purpose. On the other hand, positive thoughts, having a goal in life, people that will ne willing to a positive figure in your life.
