reading and writing approaches to literacy 1
After reading and viewing the lesson materials and using the ECD 526 Reading and Writing Approaches to Literacy Assignment Rubric as a guide, provide a brief summary of each of the following approaches to literacy instruction followed by an example/scenario of ways the method can be implemented in a targeted early childhood setting. For example, you may choose to focus on a second grade classroom doing a unit on Famous Americans. Staying true to this theme, first provide a summary of each approach, then a practical example of how that tool can be applied in the classroom. In this case, perhaps the basal reading program has a story that is relevant to the theme. If not, you would state that there is not a connection to the theme, but that the basal reading will be used to teach grade level appropriate skills and standards giving examples of ways the basal reader can still be used authentically. Then, progress to the following approach. You might say something like “For the Literature Circles I will select five books at various levels that each address a different Famous American. I will then provide a book talk on each piece of literature and allow students to select their books. We will discuss the different roles that will be used in the Literature Circle then we will schedule our group meetings, etc.
Using what you have learned from the course materials, use the ECD 526 Reading and Writing Approaches text link to open and complete the table for each approach providing a clear example of possible implementation for your targeted population. Attached as an attachment, fill out for assignment.
After you have substantively completed the table, compose a 2-3 paragraph narrative describing how you will utilize these approaches to provide balanced literacy instruction. Be sure to reference your course materials to support your findings. This assignment should be compiled into one document and submitted for grading and feedback. i ATTACHED THE RUBRIC AND REQUIRED READINGS FOR REFERENCE
